Cairo, Egypt, is hosting the World Urban Forum from November 4 to 8. This conference on urbanization brings together representatives of national, regional, and local governments from different countries, academics, and civil society.
This year, representatives of 190 countries are taking part in the Forum. Several discussion panels are devoted to restoring Ukraine and transforming Ukrainian cities. The discussion focuses on digital recovery tools, local government's role in recovery, and community capacity creation.
Iryna Shyrokova, International Partnerships Coordinator, DREAM Project Office, participated in a session organized by UNITAC in partnership with the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE). The session aimed to explore approaches to Ukraine's restoration, particularly through digital tools.
Over 40 participants attended the session, including representatives of Ukrainian diplomatic missions in foreign countries, Ukrainian parliament members, the public sector, and international donor organizations.
Iryna Shyrokova spoke about the ecosystem's functionality and the key values that DREAM creates in the context of working with recovery and development projects in Ukraine. She also emphasized the principles of implementing the ecosystem as a «single window» for planning and implementing public investment projects.
Particular attention was paid to interaction with international recovery partners and the benefits DREAM provides for donors, international financial organizations, and business representatives ready to join the rebuilding of Ukraine.
In his opening speech, Hryhoriy Melnychuk, Deputy Director of The Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning at the Ministry for Development of Сommunities and Territories of Ukraine, spoke about Ukraine's challenges in restoring and developing cities during the war. He emphasized the importance of recovery planning in communities, digitalizing urban planning activities, and transparency of funding allocation according to the identified priorities. According to him, introducing digital restoration tools and the DREAM ecosystem, in particular, will ensure the recovery process's efficiency, accountability, and quality.
