UNICEF to finance Chornomorsk pumping station reconstruction project selected through DREAM

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has signed an agreement with the Chornomorsk community of the Odesa region to reconstruct the city's central sewage pumping station.

The project was selected through the DREAM ecosystem. Its total budget is UAH 11 million.

The project aligns with the Sustainable and Energy Development and Community Climate Action Plan and includes - reconstruction of the household drinking water and sewage networks in the premises of the HCNS, - upgrading equipment and repairing premises.

The project implementation will ensure reliable and uninterrupted wastewater disposal from Chornomorsk and the surrounding community areas, where more than 70 thousand people live.

The UNICEF agreement requires mandatory monthly updates on the project's implementation stages, photo documentation of the process, and reporting in the DREAM ecosystem.

- We are teaming up with Ukrainian communities to ensure sustainable water and sanitation management, reduce environmental problems, and improve access to clean water. Transparency, openness, and public accountability are critical for restoration, - said Munir Mammadzade, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine.

In September 2024, the Fund also signed an agreement to support a project to overhaul the water supply network in Arkhangelske, Kherson region, with a total budget of UAH 22.3 million.

It is worth reminding that UNICEF became Ukraine's first international recovery partner to select a project for funding through DREAM. The pilot project in the cooperation was restoring the water supply in the village of Vysokopillia, the Kherson region.
