General information

Description of the project

The project involves a comprehensive reconstruction of the electrical equipment of a key pumping station that provides water supply to a large industrial center. The main feature is the modernization of the power system with its integration into cogeneration gas piston units, which allows creating an autonomous and sustainable energy environment for the facility.

The purpose of the project

Main goal:

Increasing compliance with modern standards

Secondary goal:

Improving the equality of wealth distribution, Improving the condition of infrastructure, Improving the quality of services

Description of the purpose of the project and ways to achieve it

The main goal of the project is to ensure maximum reliability and autonomy of energy supply of a strategically important facility of the water supply system. The project is aimed at creating a sustainable energy infrastructure that will be able to function uninterruptedly even under conditions of instability in the unified energy system of Ukraine. The key element is the transformation of the facility into a non-volatile node by integrating it with its own cogeneration units. Methods of achieving the goal: To implement the investment project, the following technical and organizational methods are envisaged: 1. Deep technical modernization: Complete replacement of critically worn oil circuit breakers in switchgear with modern vacuum devices with a high switching resource. 2. Creation of backup power channels: Construction of a new 10 kV cable line with a length of over 13 km, which provides the necessary duplication of energy sources. 3. Implementation of energy-efficient regulation: Installation of powerful frequency converters and soft start systems, which allow optimizing the operation of electric motors of pumping units, avoiding water hammer and excessive starting currents. 4. Digitalization and automation: Installation of microprocessor relay protection and data transmission systems, which allow fully integrating the facility into the remote control system (SCADA). 5. Power equipment upgrade: Replacement of outdated oil transformers with modern energy-efficient dry analogues, which reduces energy losses and increases environmental safety.

Problems and solutions resulting from project implementation

Existing infrastructure and its technical condition The facility's infrastructure includes a closed 10/6 kV switchgear and pumping station equipment that provides water supply to a large region. The technical condition of the equipment is assessed as critically worn out: most of the distribution cells, oil circuit breakers and operational current systems are morally and physically obsolete and require complete dismantling. Capacity and level of functioning The facility is part of the critical infrastructure of strategic importance. The main capacities are represented by powerful synchronous motors (3200 kW each) and asynchronous units. Despite the fact that the station remains operational, it operates according to outdated power supply schemes that do not meet modern reliability requirements. Factors limiting effective use: • Energy vulnerability: Complete dependence on external networks without the possibility of autonomous operation from alternative sources of generation (for example, cogeneration units). • Lack of regulation: Direct start of powerful motors causes water hammer and excessive loads on the power system, which accelerates the wear of pipes and equipment. • Fire hazard: The use of old-style oil transformers and circuit breakers increases operational risks and requires expensive maintenance. Justification of the inadequacy of the current infrastructure The existing system does not meet modern needs for the following reasons: 1. Low reliability: The high degree of wear of switching devices creates the risk of sudden emergency shutdowns, which in martial law conditions can lead to a prolonged lack of water supply for hundreds of thousands of consumers. 2. Energy consumption: Old equipment has high power loss rates, and the lack of frequency regulation makes it impossible to save electricity. 3. Lack of automation: The current base does not allow for the implementation of full-fledged remote control and integration into digital monitoring systems such as SCADA. 4. Safety requirements: It is necessary to create an autonomous energy node through new backup power lines, which is impossible to implement based on existing old equipment.
