General information

Description of the project

The project involves the creation of two nuclear medicine centers for the development of modern radionuclide diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases in Ukraine. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to develop design and estimate documentation, build and equip specialized premises with appropriate engineering infrastructure, radiation protection and radiation control systems to ensure the functioning of nuclear medicine equipment.

The implementation of the project is aimed at solving the problem of limited availability of modern methods of radionuclide diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases, in particular with the use of radiopharmaceuticals. The creation of the centers will allow expanding patients' access to high-tech medical care, increasing the level of early detection of cancer diseases and the effectiveness of treatment.

The expected results of the project are the creation of a modern nuclear medicine infrastructure, the commissioning of specialized centers, and ensuring the effective use of equipment purchased from the state budget, which will contribute to improving the quality and accessibility of medical care for patients with cancer.

The purpose of the project

Main Goal:

Creation of new facilities and services

Secondary Goal:

Increasing compliance with modern standards, Improving the equality of wealth distribution, Improving the condition of infrastructure, Improving the quality of services, Meeting demand

Description of the purpose of the project and ways to achieve it

The goal of the project is to develop the nuclear medicine infrastructure in Ukraine by creating two modern nuclear medicine centers to ensure patients' access to high-tech methods of radionuclide diagnostics and treatment, primarily in the field of oncological diseases. The achievement of this goal is envisaged by developing design and estimate documentation, construction and equipment of specialized premises with appropriate engineering infrastructure, including radiation protection systems, ventilation, radiation safety control and other technological solutions necessary for the functioning of nuclear medicine equipment. The need for the project is due to the existing gap between the current level of providing the healthcare system with modern nuclear medicine infrastructure and the need for patients to access modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases. Currently, there are a limited number of centers in Ukraine that provide such services, which significantly limits patients' access to appropriate medical care. At the same time, in 2025, nuclear medicine equipment was purchased from the state budget, for the effective use of which it is necessary to create an appropriate specialized infrastructure. The implementation of the project will allow to eliminate the specified infrastructure gap, ensure the effective use of the purchased equipment and expand patients' access to modern diagnostic and treatment methods.

Problems and solutions resulting from project implementation

One of the key problems of the Ukrainian healthcare system is the limited availability of modern methods of radionuclide diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases, which are widely used in the countries of the European Union and other developed countries. The existing infrastructure of nuclear medicine is underdeveloped and is characterized by a limited number of specialized centers, production facilities for the manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals and relevant technological premises. The urgency of solving this problem is due to the increase in the number of oncological diseases and the need to introduce modern diagnostic methods that allow detecting diseases at early stages and increasing the effectiveness of treatment. At the same time, the limited capabilities of the existing infrastructure, in particular insufficient production facilities for the manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals and technical wear of certain equipment, hinder the development of nuclear medicine in Ukraine and limit patients' access to relevant medical services. If these problems are not resolved, there will be a shortage of opportunities for conducting modern radionuclide research and treatment, which may lead to further restrictions on patients' access to high-tech medical care and inefficient use of nuclear medicine equipment purchased from the state budget. The implementation of the project will create the necessary infrastructure for the functioning of modern nuclear medicine equipment, increase the number of available diagnostic and treatment procedures, expand patients' access to high-tech medical care, and contribute to increasing the efficiency of diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases in Ukraine.
