General information

Description of the project

The main goal of the Project is to increase the reliability of the operating modes of the southern part of the Unified Power System of Ukraine by removing network restrictions on the output of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, stabilizing the voltage in the Southern and Crimean power systems (PS), increasing the throughput capacity of the intersections of the southern part of the Unified Power System of Ukraine by strengthening the connection of the Kakhovka power node with the main networks of the Unified Power System of Ukraine.

The purpose of the project

Main goal:

Creation of new facilities and services

Description of the purpose of the project and ways to achieve it

Increasing the reliability of the operating modes of the southern part of the Unified Power System of Ukraine by removing network restrictions on the output of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, stabilizing the voltage in the Southern and Crimean power systems (PS), increasing the throughput capacity of the intersections of the southern part of the Unified Power System of Ukraine by strengthening the connection of the Kakhovka power node with the main networks of the Unified Power System of Ukraine

Problems and solutions resulting from project implementation

The planned construction of the 750 kV ZNPP-Kahovska overhead line will ensure the future transit of the station's electricity to the deficit regions of the Ukrainian Unified Energy System, namely to the southeastern regions of the Southern Power System and to the Crimean power system. Today, a change in the scheme for connecting the 750/330 kV Kakhovska substation to the main networks (which will be built within the framework of the Project) has been adopted. This was due to the unsatisfactory technical condition of the equipment of the 330/220/150 kV Novokakhovska substation, which is located on the territory of the Southern Power System (in its southeastern part) at the junction with the Dnieper and Crimean power systems, and is one of the key nodes in the power supply scheme of the Crimean region. Novokakhovska substation is a nodal facility of the main network, the power from which is oriented to supply electricity to consumers not only in the adjacent regions of the Kherson region, but also in the Crimean power system as a whole. Of the four intersystem transits Ukraine - Crimea, three lines (330 kV overhead lines Novokakhovska - Dzhankoy and Novokakhovska - Ostrovska, 220 kV overhead lines Novokakhovska - Titan) are connected to the 330 and 220 kV buses of the specified substation. In conditions of constant electricity shortage in Crimea, the reliability of electricity supply to consumers in the region is determined by the level of operability of the electrical equipment of the Novokakhovska substation. The pre-accident condition of AT1 220/150 kV at the Novokakhovska substation, from which the 220 kV overhead line at the Titan substation is powered, is an additional factor that increases the already critical conditions for electricity supply to consumers in Crimea. The shutdown of the 220 kV Novokakhovska-Titan overhead line in the normal network scheme will lead to a decrease in the permissible flow in the Ukraine-Crimea intersection by 90 MW, which is unacceptable in maximum load modes, both in winter and summer.
