The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) opened its office in Ukraine in 1997. Over the years, UNICEF has supported the Government of Ukraine in developing health, water and sanitation, education, and protection programmes for children.
UNICEF has been providing life-saving support to children and families affected by the war in Ukraine. UNICEF works to fulfill the core commitments for children in humanitarian action, including access to education, psychosocial support, water and sanitation, mine risk education, and maternal and child health.
Ukraine’s long-term recovery depends on the recovery of children who are affected by the war today. UNICEF has expanded efforts to support the government in an inclusive and child-centered and sustainable recovery, through strengthening child protection, education, health services, as well as basic services such as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

Current programs/projects in Ukraine
UNICEF is currently implementing some 80 projects with water utilities and district heating companies, with the financial overlay of about US$33 million reaching more than 4.5 million beneficiaries.
