Primary and secondary surveillance radars are surveillance systems that allow an air traffic controller to track the position and trajectory of an aircraft under his control, detect potential emergency situations in advance, and provide appropriate warnings and instructions to the aircraft crew to avoid them. PSR (primary surveillance radar) is a radar surveillance system, the principle of which is based on the emission of signals and the reception of signals reflected from objects. SSR (secondary surveillance radar) is a radar surveillance system that transmits interrogation signals and receives signals from airborne transponders in response. MSSR (monopulse SSR) operates using the monopulse method, has more advanced accuracy characteristics than SSR, and provides reduced horizontal separation minima for aircraft. The system consists of a network of radar stations, radar information processing equipment, and data transmission lines. Before the war, Ukraine's radar coverage field was developed and met the requirements of ICAO and Eurocontrol.
