General information

Description of the project

The project involves major renovation of the Heroes of Maidan Square in the city of Volodymyr. The main goal is to revitalize the recreational area with a total area of 680 sq. m. to create an accessible and open path that will connect important social points (to the Central Bank, the Volodymyr branch of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, the branch of Oschadbank, Privatbank, and the Volodymyr District State Administration) and to arrange a comfortable space for recreation. The implementation of the project will ensure a high-quality renovation of the pedestrian infrastructure, in particular the central circular path, recreation areas and one path along the perimeter, as two have already been renovated in 2023 in accordance with the norms of the State Building Code. These actions will significantly improve the city's landscaping and social environment, namely the so-called formation of an inclusive space and conditions for socialization.

The purpose of the project

Main Goal:

Ensuring inclusiveness and equal opportunities

Secondary Goal:

Increasing compliance with modern standards, Improving the condition of infrastructure

Description of the purpose of the project and ways to achieve it

The goal of the project is to create a safe, comfortable and fully inclusive recreational space in the Heroes of Maidan Square in the city of Volodymyr. The project is aimed at ensuring unhindered access of residents to key administrative and financial institutions (Central Administrative Center, Pension Fund, banks, Regional State Administration) and the formation of a high-quality recreation area for all categories of the population, in particular low-mobility groups, people with disabilities, the elderly and parents with strollers. Achieving this goal will be possible through the implementation of the following aspects: ·       implementation of inclusion standards: arrangement of sidewalks of standard width (1.80 m) for free two-way movement of strollers, installation of tactile tiles, as well as lowering curbs to the level of the pavement at crossing points; ·       overhaul of pedestrian zones: arrangement of modern wear-resistant pavement made of "Retro Brick" concrete tiles and granite paving stones on a total area of 680 sq. m., which will ensure the durability and aesthetics of the infrastructure; ·       completion of the formation of the logistics network: execution of works on the central circular path, which will allow connecting the areas already renovated in 2023 into a single barrier-free route; ·       creation of comfortable recreation: preparation and arrangement of special areas (3.50x1.00 m in size) for the installation of small architectural forms (benches for rest and garbage cans); ·       technical modernization of the territory: implementation of landscaping measures to improve the urban microclimate. The implementation of these measures in accordance with the available documentation will allow completing the comprehensive revitalization of the square, providing community residents with equal access to social services and decent conditions for socialization in the urban space.

Problems and solutions resulting from project implementation

The existing pedestrian infrastructure of the Heroes of Maidan Square is technically worn out and logically incomplete, which creates critical barriers to the safe movement of more than 6 thousand residents of the community from among low-mobility population groups, limits the development of the tourist potential of the central part of the city and prevents convenient access to the city market, tourist infrastructure facilities and more than a dozen local businesses. In total, 44,740 residents live in the community, and the traffic volume in the specified section of the route is approximately 1,500-2,000 people per day. The existing pedestrian infrastructure of the Heroes of Maidan Square is in unsatisfactory technical condition and is logically incomplete. The central circular path and part of the perimeter paths have a worn, uneven surface, which complicates movement. The lack of lowered curbs and tactile elements creates significant obstacles for the access of low-mobility groups to socially important facilities: the Central Bank, the Pension Fund, banking institutions and the district state administration. Partial renovation of the territory in 2023 emphasized the contrast between the renovated areas and outdated fragments of the square, which negatively affects the overall improvement and safety of movement in the city center. The implementation of the project will allow to systematically eliminate these problems through: technical renovation: installation of modern wear-resistant concrete tiles and granite paving stones on an area of 680 sq.m., which will provide a flat and safe surface; creation of barrier-free access: arrangement of lowered curbs, installation of tactile tiles and provision of the regulatory width of the paths (1.80 m) for free movement in wheelchairs; logical completion of the network: the overhaul will unite the sections already renovated in 2023 into a coherent, accessible infrastructure; improvement of comfort: creation of special areas for installing street furniture (benches and garbage cans); stimulation of the local economy: people will be able to comfortably reach retail outlets, visit tourist attractions in the city center, having a recreation area nearby. As a result of the project, a completely barrier-free and safe urban environment will be formed. This will not only improve the aesthetic appearance of the central part of the city, but will also provide equal opportunities for all citizens in accessing administrative services, retail establishments and quality recreation in a historically valuable and beautiful urban area.

Project Sustainable Development Goals

Demand for the service and its dynamics

What methodology was used to estimate demand?
