Problems
Current status, description of problems and needs for their solution
The existing flight zone No. 2 of the Kyiv/Boryspil airport was put into operation in the 70s of the last century. The airfield surfaces were partially overhauled in the period from 2008 to 2012.
Airport pavements of the runway, main and connecting taxiways, parts of the old platforms, taking into account:
- their unsatisfactory condition;
- operation for a period that significantly exceeds the period between capital repairs;
- strength (existing PCN 39, after reconstruction should be 120);
subject to disassembly. The total disassembly area is about 600,000 m2.
The existing infrastructure, including lighting equipment, radio navigation aids, emergency and rescue station, transformer substations, sewage treatment plants, engineering networks, perimeter security is very outdated and in need of reconstruction
Ensuring the further development of the State Enterprise "Boryspil International Airport" as a leading international hub airport (hub) in Eastern Europe, which involves the expansion of the air traffic network, the development of modern transit infrastructure, the application of a flexible approach to attracting air carriers of various business models and increasing the revenues of the state-owned enterprise property
Reconstruction of the airfield (as a result of which the III category of the instrument landing system will be provided, thanks to the introduction of appropriate lighting and instrument landing systems and navigation equipment, emergency and rescue and fire protection of flights), provision of the airfield with appropriate equipment and ground machinery, taking into account the requirements of European regulations on certification of civil aviation airfields for unlimited acceptance by airports of aircraft without type restrictions
The project is aimed at creating a comprehensive process of restoration and modernization of the post-war development of Boryspil International Airport, taking into account the impact of the ongoing Russian invasion, which will contribute to the rapid and sustainable reconstruction of the largest air transport gateway to the capital of Ukraine.
Limitations related to the implementation of the Project are related to the risks caused by the war, namely - delays in financing, supplies, price increases, lack of qualified personnel, destruction of infrastructure.
Bringing air transport infrastructure in line with international requirements is an important component of the state's strategy aimed at ensuring the competitiveness of the Ukrainian economy
A detailed description of the project goal and the way to achieve it
The reconstruction of flight zone No. 2 of the Kyiv/Boryspil airport involves the construction of a new runway, new taxiways, the expansion of existing platforms, the installation of the latest engineering and technological equipment (light signaling, radio navigation, weather, emergency and rescue station, etc.), the installation of other infrastructural facilities facilities that are necessary for the safe and technological operation of the airport.
The total area of renewed and new airport artificial surfaces will be approximately 1,000,000 m2
The project envisages the placement of the following facilities and structures:
a new runway with an artificial surface (SHZPS-2) with an approximate length of 3800m and a width of 45m;
taxiways;
connecting taxiways and expressway taxiways;
platforms "C" and "S" for aircraft code letter "C", "D", "E";
isolation parking place for aircraft code letter "E";
parking places for testing aircraft engines of the code letter "E";
parking places for washing aircraft code letter "E";
cargo complex, including a cargo platform for aircraft parking;
sites for treating aircraft with anti-icing liquid;
airfield drainage (rainwater);
light signaling equipment;
radio navigation aids for landing;
weather equipment;
emergency and rescue station;
stormwater treatment facilities;
technical base of anti-icing treatment of aircraft;
transformer substations;
a new perimeter fence with a security alarm system, video surveillance and a patrol road;
new engineering networks to the designed objects

Reduction
Operational risk of performing work in the conditions of an active airport Construction work in an active airport by its nature disrupts normal work and creates security threats. This could lead to delays, flight cancellations and disruptions for passengers, airlines and other airport users. There is also an increased risk of accidents or injuries to workers and airport staff.
